La seguridad del paciente constituye uno de los pilares fundamentales de la calidad asistencial en los sistemas sanitarios. En este contexto, la prevención y control de las infecciones asociadas a la atención sanitaria (IAAS) representan un desafío prioritario para los establecimientos de salud, debido a su impacto en la morbilidad, mortalidad y costos del sistema. El presente libro ofrece una visión integral sobre la relación entre seguridad del paciente y control de infecciones en los establecimientos de salud ecuatorianos, integrando fundamentos conceptuales, evidencia científica y enfoques prácticos aplicables a la gestión hospitalaria. A lo largo de sus capítulos se abordan temas como la cultura de seguridad institucional, los eventos adversos y centinela, los sistemas de notificación y aprendizaje organizacional, la vigilancia epidemiológica de IAAS y los procesos de esterilización y control microbiológico. Asimismo, se analizan escenarios clínicos específicos, como la atención neonatal y el manejo del paciente oncológico inmunosuprimido, que requieren especial atención en términos de seguridad. La obra propone una mirada sistémica basada en la formación del personal sanitario, la gestión del riesgo clínico y la mejora continua, con el propósito de fortalecer prácticas seguras y promover sistemas de salud más seguros y humanizados.
